BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2016218428 DESCRIPTION A multiparous woman aged 33 years presented to the haematology clinic with an abdominal skin rash and an abnormal full blood count. Physical examination revealed violaceous discolouration and hypertrophy of the striae gravidarum (SG) (figure 1A, B), sparing the surrounding skin. The patient denied taking steroids. At the time of presentation, her white cell count was 66 000/mm, her haemoglobin level was 6.7 g/dL and her platelet count was 32 000/mm. A blood film revealed monoblasts and the bone marrow biopsy showed hypercellular bone marrow due to infiltration by sheets of immature cells (monoblasts and promonocytes). The monoblasts were folded nuclei, with delicate chromatin and occasional vacuolated cytoplasm. The promonocytes

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a heterogeneous group of haematological disorders characterized by uncontrolled proliferation and infiltration of neoplastic haematopoietic cells in the bone marrow and blood. Extramedullary tissue involvement is not uncommon as part of the presentation in AML. Sites of involvement include liver, spleen, skin, gum, bone, testis and central nervous system (CNS). ...

Background Classification of cancer subtypes by means of microarray signatures is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore as a potential to transform pathological diagnosis nonetheless, measurement of Indicator genes in routine practice appears to be arduous. In a preceding published study, we utilized real-time PCR measurement of Indicator genes in acute lymphoid leukaemia (ALL) and acute m...

متن کاملCutaneous myeloid sarcoma presenting as grey pigmented macules.
According to previous reports, cutaneous myeloid sar-coma often manifests as a red nodule on the skin. We report here a patient with cutaneous myeloid sarcoma presenting with a unique skin lesion. A 71-year-old man presented with pigmented macules of one month duration. Physical examination showed multiple grey pigmented macules, 10–30 mm in diameter , on the face and trunk (Fig. 1a). His white...
متن کاملThe Effect of Monophosphoryl Lipid A on Maturation of DCs from Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia
Background: Generation of monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MDDC) is induced in the presence of GM-CSF and IL-4, and a maturation stimulus is added to the monocyte culture to obtain mature Dendritic Cells (DCs) suitable for therapy. TNF-α is the most common cytokine used for activating DCs and generating mature MDDC either alone or in combination with other cytokines. Objective: To compare effe...
